UT Extension, Be MedWise Promoting Wise Use of Over-the-Counter Medicines

Program Goal

To improve the medication literacy of Tennesseans in partnership with the National Council on Patient Information and Education, the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy, the Tennessee Poison Center and the University of Tennessee Extension.

The national program, Be MedWise (http://www.bemedwise.org), is an educational program designed to assist consumers in using over-the-counter (OTC) medications wisely. The UT program has expanded the content to include prescription drugs also. The focus of the program is to promote the safe, appropriate and effective use of medications (including prescription and over-the-counter).

  • Use medications as prescribed for the control and prevention of complications caused by chronic disease.
  • Use the UT Med Minder Card to keep a record of the medications they are taking.
